Some Biblical Expressions of Praise
1. Declaring of thanks .
Hebrew 13:15 “Through him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess His name.”
2. Clapping Hands and shouting.
Psalm 47:1 “Clap your hands, all you people; shout to God with loud songs of joys.”
3. Musical Instruments and Dancing
Psalm 150:3-5 “Praise Him with trumpet sound; praise Him with lute and harp! Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with clanging cymbals.”
4. Singing Praise Songs
Psalm 9:11 “Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion. Declare His deeds among the people.”
5. Psalms, Hymms and Spiritual Songs
Epehsians 5:19-20 “as you sing psalms and hymms and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
6. Making a Joyful Noise
Psalm 98:4 “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth, break forth into joyous song and sing.”
7. By Lifting our Hands
Psalm 134:2 “Lift up your hands to the holy place, and bless the Lord.”
8. By Being Still
Psalm 4:3 “When you are disturbed, do not sin; ponder it on your beds, and be silent.”
Psal 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.”
9. By Being Loud
Psalm 33:3 “Sing to Him a new song; play skiifully on the strings, with loud shouts.”
Psalm 95:1-2 “O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise.”
The Power of Praise sends the enemy running.
Psalm 50:23 “Those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honor me; to those who go to the right way I will show the salvation of God.”
- Sing praises to God manifests God’s presence and repels the presence of the enemy, Satan.
- The devil fears the power in the name of Jesus, and flees from the Lord’s habitation in praise.
2 Chronicle 20:22 “Praise the Lord, for His mercy endureth foever!…when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah, and they were smitten.”
- When the children of Judah led by King Jehoshophat begin to praise God, the power of God is released and defeated their enemy. (Judah actually means ‘Praise’)
Praise to God is a Lifestyle
Psalm 34:1 “I will bless the Lord and all times, his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
Hebrew 13:15 “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”
- Praise is a sacrifice that we shall offer to God daily, not only when we attend church or when we feel like doing it, but because we believe in Him and wish to please Him everyday.
- Praise should be a part of a believer’s lifestyle, inter-mingled as part of their daily prayer life whether at work, in the car, at home or anywhere.
